The Conisbrough and Denaby 100 Project

Vincent Bell

Vincent joined the army as a Private in the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, 1/5th Battalion. He was posthumously awarded the Victory, British and 15 Star medals and is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial to the Missing, following his death on 10th September 1916.

Vincent was born in circa 1884 to John Bell and his wife. The family lived at 15, March Gate, Consibrough. He was one of four brothers who all joined the army: Vincent himself, brother Harry (also KOYLI), Fred (also KOYLI) who was killed very early in the war in August 1914, and William, who was severely wounded and discharged.

Fred is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing, in France. We visited and laid his tribute in April 2015.
