To date, we have visited 87 men in two countries.

Research is ongoing, and information on each man can be found by selecting 'The Men' from the menu.

100 Years, 100 Men

The War Memorial in Conisbrough, on the outskirts of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, lists the names of 174 men who lost their lives during WW1, and in the adjacent village of Denaby, another 163 men are listed.

The Conisbrough and Denaby 100 Project is an endeavour to commemorate 100 men from the Conisbrough and Denaby area who fought and died in World War One.

The aim of the Project is to put a person behind the name; to build a picture of the character and history of each man and to publish this information for the interest of the community. This involves us researching each man's personal history, his employment, his army service, and ultimately his death.

As the war itself and the story of each man are inextricably linked, the Project also involves the research and publication of information about the War itself; the actions, the battles and the experience of being a soldier in the British Army.

The commemoration of each man culminates in the laying of a tribute at their grave or memorial wherever they may be all across Europe. The Project will see us visit men buried in England, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Malta and Turkey.

Over the next 4 years, we will chronical and record all of this information so that it is available for generations old and young to come to know 100 of the men who left our villages a century ago, and never returned.

Due to the nature of the Project, this website is a 'living website' and will be regularly updated as research continues.
