The Conisbrough and Denaby 100 Project

Malcolm McArthur

Malcolm McArthur was born in Brampton, South Yorkshire, the youngest son of Thomas and Susannah McArthur. He had two older brothers William and Donald. By the age of 14 years Malcolm was living in Denaby Main at 15 George Street with his mother, step father, his 2 brothers and 3 half brothers.

 

In 1907 Malcolm married Elizabeth Jane Wilson. At this time Malcolm was working as a miner and the couple lived at 18 Marr Street, Denaby Main. Malcolm and Elizabeth had 2 daughters; Mary Ellen and Doris.

 

On the 16th June 1915 Malcolm enlisted into the army and joined the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). At this time the family were living at 19 Wadworth Street, Denaby Main. Almost three years later, on the 16th April 1918 Malcolm was reported as wounded and a prisoner of war. He died from his wounds a couple of weeks later on 2nd May 1918.

 

Malcolm was awarded the British War and Victory Medals.

 

After his death Malcolm’s wife and daughters emigrated to Canada.
